The Rabbit's Riot Theatre Company

The award-winning Rabbit’s Riot Theatre Company was co-founded in March 2016 by Sonia Norris and Treasa Nealon.

We have produced 16 performances and the first LGBT+ Theatre Festival in the North-West of Ireland, Where We Are Now. We are currently working on a verbatim project #BraveNewWorld2019, a multi-media performance about revenge porn and cyber-bullying.

In 2018, we won an award from the Leitrim County Council for our Outstanding Contribution to the Arts.

We do not let boxes confine us or dictate what sort of work we should create – one week you can follow Captain Hook down a forest trail looking for his hand, the next we give a voice to the victims of revenge porn.

We perform everywhere and anywhere – the shore of Glenade lake whilst we explored the mythological story of An Dobharchú to the ruins of castles.

We like to tackle difficult topics and explore their effect on rural communities – abortion, mother and baby homes, alcoholism and mental health.  

​

We welcome challenges with open arms. Nothing is too big or too small.

Sonia Norris is co-founder and director of the Rabbits Riot Theatre Company. After graduating with a BA Honours degree in Performing arts Theatre Design she worked in media design and event planning before working with Adrian Dunbar, as Costume Designer, in the 2015 International Beckett Festival. During the same festival Sonia worked as a Costume Assistant to designer Kirstie MacLeod for the construction of the 15 foot, revolving, dissolving dress, alongside director Sophie Hunter for her production of ‘Phaedra’. After working as a designer for local theatre groups, Sonia joined with Treasa Nealon to establish the Rabbits Riot Theatre Company so they could create their own ‘out-of-the-box’ theatre working closely with the community and producing work around socially trending topics and issues.

Treasa Nealon has a BA Honours degree in Performing Arts (Acting) Degree from IT Sligo (graduating in 2014). Since leaving college she has worked companies such as angur Ban Productions, Arroo Abú Theatre Company and Splódar Theatre Company in a variety of roles including a wardrobe technician for Tom Hickey in the production of The Gallant John-Joe. A prolific playwright, her work has been performed all over Ireland, the UK and the US. She was writer-in-residence in The Glens Centre in 2016 and writer-in-residence in the Hawk’s Well as part of their Time at the Well in 2018.
